FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH of Ludolf's Historica Aethiopica. Hiob Ludolf was a German-born scholar who became aquainted with Ethiopian language and culture through a monk from the Amhara province named Gregorius, whom he met while studying in Rome. This history, along with Ludolf's dictionaries and grammars of the Ethiopic language, were the principal resources for the study of the region for centuries of scholars. Wing L-3468.
