FIRST EDITION, printing this 17th-century Portuguese manuscript on Brazil. "Pedro Cudena, a Spaniard, who resided several years in the Brazils, wrote, in 1634 an account of that country, which had not been published, and a copy having been found in the Wolfenbuttel library, it was printed, with a German translation and notes, by Leiste. It is said to be a curious and interesting work..." (Sabin). Lessing used the manuscript to support his incorrect theory on the naming and discovery of the Amazon. One of the few German books on Brazil prior to Humboldt. Borba de Moraes I, p.141; Sabin 17830.
