FIRST GERMAN EDITION. Frezier was sent in 1712 to Chile and Peru in order to establish defences along the coasts. He studied the ports, towns and various places he visited and collected scientific material. Frézier was well-received by the governor at Santa Catharina, after they had been attacked by Duguay-Trouin. He writes about the slave trade, notes the large Jewish population in Bahia, and describes the churches and commerce. Alden & Landis 716/55; Sabin 25924.
