Lot Essay

It has long been considered that the silver and hardstone workshops of Fabergé may have used the same wax models to create animal figures and this piece would seem to be one of the proofs. An identical model in nephrite is in The Royal Collection at Sandringham, see A.K. Snowman, The Art of Carl Fabergé (London, 1964) illus.247.
