Lot Essay

With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1881 and its subsequent sale November 16th of the same year.

To the best of our knowledge the present watch has never before been offered in public.

Orna Verum, Latin for "Honor the Truth", was the motto of the famous British navigator, sealer and Antarctic explorer James Weddell and can be found inscribed to the outer case together with the Weddell family crest.

Weddell, who passed away in 1834, is the man who the Weddell seal, the Weddell Sea and the Weddell Islands in the Falklands are named after.
