Lot Essay

In 1923 the French President Poincaré sent troops to occupy the Ruhr in an attempt to coerce the Germans into paying their reparations, which had been part of the agreement of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, and the resolution of this breaking of the treaty was one of the first issues Baldwin faced when he came into office.
