A PATINATED BRONZE GROUP OF TWO DANGLING APES BY CHARLES LOUIS EUGENE VIRION, CIRCA 1900
Animalier sculptor, engraver and ceramist, Charles Louis Eugène Virion was born in Ajaccio in 1865. He studied in Paris under Jean-Paul Aubé and Charles Gauthier and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français as soon as 1886, winning many awards. In 1900, he takes part in the Expostion Universelle before devoting himself to wildlife sculpture from 1913. Most of Virion's sculptures reside today in the collections of the Calais, Nemours, Rochefort, Saint-Dizier, Wyoming and Sao Paulo museums
