A jar of this type is in the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, part of a collection formed by the father of John Tradescant, the donor, who died in 1627 and whose name is usually attached to the group. Wares of this type were exported from Canton or another Southern port to Indonesia, to the Philippines and to the Pacific. Similar jars are illustrated by W.B.Honey, Ceramic Art of China and other Countries of the Far East, London 1945, pl.81 also p.102 (Victoria and Albert Museum example), by S.
