The painting reflects the artistic tradition of the Karma bka'.brgyud.pa master Si.tu Pan.chen Chos.kyi.'byung.gnas (1700-1774). He founded the 'Ka.brgyud monastery dPal.spungs, near Derge in East Tibet. The style of his painting school is reflected by the pale tones of graded colour planes in blue and green allowing a vastness of open space, yet juxtaposed with bright narratives.
