Représenté debout en samabhanga, le bras droit replié, la main gauche tenant un pan de sa robe, cette dernière élégamment plissée, épousant le corps et retombant sur ses chevilles, le très beau visage serein, les yeux mi-clos, les paupières coupantes, le nez aquilin, la bouche charnue, le front paré de l'urna, les cheveux ondulés coiffés vers l'arrière, l'usnisha proéminent, un halo mettant en valeur le raffinement du visage, socle

Lot Essay

With the growing popularity of Mahayana Buddhism around the second century large detached images were sculpted alongside narrative friezes. This fine standing Buddha is characteristic for the high point of Gandharan art as represented in the refinement of the carving and excellent state. The elegant treatment of the drapery subtly reveals the underlying physique of his body.
