The embroidered monogram 'D.C.' and the inscription to the frontispiece with initials 'D.C.W.' indicates that this album of sketches was put together by Dorothy Cook (later Widdrington), née Davison, sometime after the inheritance of the Newton Hall Estate in 1840. It is likely that the present drawings were executed by Dorothy whilst accompanying her husband on travels in Italy. Another book of sketches taken in Germany in 1841 was gifted to Craig Davison of Wilmington Delaware, by Captain F.N.H. Widdrington in 1982.
