BIBLE in English, [Cambridge: John Hayes, 1677], 2 vols. in one, 4° (238 x 175mm.) (Lacking Old Testament title and all before A2.) Contemporary green morocco gilt, with white metal centre-pieces containing the initial "M" on front cover and "A" [?Anne Ardeine] on back amid scrolling flowers and acorns, white metal filigree border, clasps and corner-pieces (front cover detached). Provenance: front blank with ms notes in various hands tracing the descendants of "Anne Ardeine married to John Shallcross of Shallcross Octr. 28 1684", and including the marriage of Shallcross Jackson to Frances daughter of the R[ev]. J. Cook of Newton Hall in 1819 at the head of the second page. Darlow & Moule/Herbert 736; sold as a binding not subject to return.

Contemporary diced calf, covers with gilt roll-tool border incorporating an urn, flowers and stars, spines with all-over tooling of stars, flowers and crescent moons, gilt edges (splitting to joints, spine of vol.
