The initials PM are thought to stand for Prince Maximilian, Elector of Bavaria and Governor of Holland during William III's absences in Britain. For a similar example initialed DO for the duke of Ormonde see John Austin, British Delft at Williamsburg, Williamsburg, Virginia, 1994, p. 140, no. 191. Here he notes at least seven personages are known depicted in this pose, many of whom have connections with the Jacobite rebellion.
