This form of sideboard relates to a design for a 'Side Board Table' in Gillows Estimate Sketch Books of 25 November 1786. Among related examples are a sideboard with a fluted apron from the Simon Sainsbury Collection sold Christie's, London, 18 June 2008, while another, almost certainly the pair to the Sainsbury sideboard from the collection of Frederick Behrens Esq. and subsequently H.J. Joel Esq., was sold Christie's, London, 17 April 1980, lot 84. The latter is illustrated in R. Edwards and P. Macquoid , The Dictionary of English Furniture, rev. edn., London 1954, vol. III, p 34., fig. 27.
Most recently a related example with canted angles and turned legs was sold at Bonhams, London, 18 November 2009, lot 183.
