CASE: elaborately cast and with bearded mask to front and rear, a dragon to the front DIAL: ormolu, engine turned centre, signed 'PAYNE NEW BOND ST LONDON', fine steel heart hands MOVEMENT: circular plates, single chain fusee and anchor escapement, back plate signed 'Payne 163 New Bond Street'; replaced pendulum, two winding keys

Lot Essay

William Payne moved to 163 New Bond Street in 1825. The company engaged in watch, clock and pedometer making and were also jewellers. By the mid-19th Century the business was well established and occupied three floors of the building.
