The square seat upholstered in buttoned, brass nailed red and white striped covers, above channelled, scrolled and foliate carved supports joined by a turned stretcher, labelled 'WHITE & CO., LTD. FURNITURE DEPOSITORIES ...' and inscribed 'MRS MAYERS FR285 /112 '

Lot Essay

The Grecian dressing-stool pattern derives from Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1807, pl. XII, fig. 3, while the design corresponds to a pattern featured in the Estimate Sketch Book of Gillows of London and Lancaster (no. 3568) dated 1827.
