Lot Essay
The northern French town of Dieppe is synonymous with this type of bone and ivory-encrusted furniture, especially mirrors. The popular 'folkish' style was apparently produced in great volume at a number of small ateliers during the second half of the 19th century. The present example is typical of the local style, with it's romantically inspired Renaissance ornament, including figures and heraldic motifs
