Lot Essay

Similar in subject and style to a number of academic studies of youthful nudes, both male and female, which Schnorr executed in the years around 1820. These drawings share the crisp, careful draughtsmanship and the delicate hatched shading visible in the present drawing. For other examples of drawings from this group, see S. Seeliger et al., Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld: Zeichnungen, Munich, 1994, pp. 66-69.
