Lot Essay

The present work is a very good example of Emms's unique style which combines fluid and confident brushstrokes with a sensitive understanding of his subject-matter. The character of the dogs is beautifully captured and he contrasts the expectant expressions of the hounds with the alert stance of the terrier in the foreground giving the work an impromptu and informal atmosphere.
