The J.W.Fiske Iron Works were established in New York by Joseph Winn Fiske in 1858. The firm was one of the most prominent American manufacturers of cast iron and cast zinc in the second half of the nineteenth century.
Zinc was a popular material for fountain figures in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as it does not corrode in harsh weather.
