Circular with applied acanthus leaves around sides, the spreading circular bases with geometric strapwork incorporating pendent foliate and bead motifs, gilt interiors, engraved to front with an earl's crest and coronet

Lot Essay

The crest is that of Walpole, Earl of Orford. The earldom lasted from 1742-1797 at which time it became extinct and a new earldom recreated in 1806 which in turn became extinct 125 years later.
