Lot Essay

This rare set of cards usually known as the Rebellion or Revolution pack includes scenes from the reign of James II and the landing of William Prince of Orange. The set includes cards of pro-Catholic activites showing the removal of the anti-Catholic wording on the Monument for example. It also has depictions of the birth of the Prince of Wales in 1688 and also depicts a sinister Popish midwife and other anti-Catholic cards
See J. R. S. Whiting, A Handful of History, Alan Sutton, 1978, chapter Nine.
