Lot Essay

Po Kim was born in Changnyung and moved with his family to Taegu in 1918. He studied art at Taiheiyo Art School, Tokyo, in 1946. He taught at Chosun University, Kwangju, from 1946 to 1955. Kim worked in Paris from 1965 to 1966 before moving to New York in 1967. He has had numerous one-person and group exhibitions in the United States, Korea and Europe. He had one-person exhibitions at Kornblee Gallery, New York, in 1962; Hadler Gallery, New York, in 1976; Image Gallery, Toledo, Ohio, in 1977; Gallery of Modern Art International, Baldham-Munich, in 1980; Knoll International, Munich, in 1982; and Haenah-Kent Gallery, Seoul and New York, in 1992. His work was exhibited in "Korean Drawing Now," Brooklyn Museum of Art, in 1981. Kim's paintings are in The Art Institute of Chicago, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Oklahoma City Art Museum, among others. Kim lives and works in New York City.
