Lot Essay

This commode is closely related to the production of Christoph Hopfengärtner (1758-1843), established in Bern and related to one of the five Funk brothers, of the famous 18th century dynasty of cabinet-makers. For further related examples see H. Kreisel, Die Kunst des deutschen Möbels, Munich, 1973, band III, ill.189.
