A CARVED RED LACQUER SHALLOW CIRCULAR BOX AND COVER
MING DYNASTY, 16TH CENTURY
Both the interchangeable cover and the box well carved with a scene of a luohan reserved against a diaper ground, one seated holding a fly whisk beside rocks on which rests his bowl, his woven shoes on the ground before him, the other seated leaning against books, with a toad in his lap and holding prayer beads in his left hand, black lacquer interior
3 7/8 in. (9.8 cm.) diam.
