With attractively grained single-panel doors fitted flush around the removable center stile and opening to reveal the interior with two shelves above two drawers and a trapdoor, all above a plain rectangular panel and aprons and apron-head spandrels

Lot Essay

The form of the present cabinet, with its attractive lines and pleasing aesthetic, has made it one of the most successful forms in Chinese furniture construction. See Wang Shixiang, Connoisseurship of Chinese Furniture, vol. II, Hong Kong, 1990, no. D30, for a very similar example in huanghuali.
