WANLI PERIOD, CIRCA 1600
Cast in low relief with a band of flowers including prunus, magnolia, peony, lotus and chrysanthemum gilded and reserved on a diaper ground between bands of silver-inlaid key fret, raised on three gilt butterfly supports and with a gilt rectangular cartouche engraved Yunjian Hu Wenming zhi on the base

Compare the related censer raised on similar supports and with the same mark, similarly cast with a band of different flowers on a diaper ground between similar borders illustrated by P. Moss, The Literati Mode, Sydney L. Moss Ltd., London, 1986, p. 290, no. 144, where the censer is dated Wanli period, c. 1600.
