A DATED PAINTED RED AND BLACK LACQUER RECTANGULAR TRAY
WANLI GUI CHOU NIAN FIVE-CHARACTER MARK IN BROWN LACQUER CORRESPONDING TO 1613 AND OF THE PERIOD
The center painted in gold and black with an official standing beneath an umbrella as he is presented with a new hat, below dragon cartouches in gold on a black ground in the well, with metal mounts to the corners, and panels of checker weave basketry on the exterior, the mark written in a line on the black lacquered base; together with a red lacquer and basketweave box and cover fitted with trays, late 16th/early 17th century, the top of the cover painted in lacquer and colors with a gathering of scholars, with panels of checker weave basketry on the sides and sides of the box, which has shaped aprons and is fitted on the interior with fifteen square trays, each with red lacquer interior and the character qing painted on the bottom, the underside of the cover painted in ochre lacquer with the characters qing yuan fu
