THREE SMALL WHITE JADE ARCHAISTIC CARVINGS
MING/EARLY QING DYNASTY, 14TH-18TH CENTURY
Comprising two discs and a cicada pendant: one disc carved in high relief on the rounded top with a chilong, a dragon and a bird, the flat underside with bosses, the other disc carved on top with two chilong and on the underside with grain pattern, with earth and cinnabar accretions; the cicada carved with bulging eyes, faceted wings, legs and ribbed abdomen on the underside

Lot Essay

A small white jade archaistic disc carved in a similar manner to the first disc, and dated to the Ming dynasty, is illustrated in Jewelry and Costumes of the Ming Dynasty, Nanjing Municipal Museum, 2000, p. 207.
