A blue-overlay white glass bottle vase of comparable small size with similar decoration on the neck in the Andrew K.F. Lee Collection is illustrated in Elegance and Radiance, Grandeur in Qing Glass, Hong Kong, 2000, no. 118. As with the present vase, it is incised with an additional character, chen, below the reign mark. It is suggested, op.cit, p. 312, that this refers to a serial number often seen on cloisonné enamel wares attributed to the Palace Workshops. Another small blue-overlay vase with dragon-decorated ovoid body, but similar decoration on the neck and the addition of the character chen below the reign mark, from the Hunting Folger Deutsch Collection, was sold in these rooms, 18 September 2003, lot 146.
