Lot Essay

The furled leaves may have been used to hold sticks of incense. The seal is most likely an 'art name'. For another ivory seal centered by a lotus pod with loose seeds dated late Ming dynasty, see Chinese Ivories from the Kwan Collection, Art Gallery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, 1990, no. 80.
