A LARGE KHORASSAN COPPER-INLAID BRONZE MORTAR

Heavily cast, of octagonal cylindrical form, a wide flaring band at top and bottom, the body with a raised medial ridge, the upper and lower register decorated with copper-inlaid crescent-shaped medallions alternating with medallions engraved with winged hares and birds, the lower flange with kufic calligraphic cartouches, the rim with six radiating moulded drop-shaped petals between calligraphic cartouches inscribed with a line of kufic over floral arabesque, minor corrosion
