Lot Essay

The miniature illustrated here depicts 'Ali bin Muwaffaq at the Ka'ba talking to God. 'Ali bin Muwaffaq is recorded as a Sheikh who visited the Ka'ba 84 times. The miniature is from the Tuhfat al-Ahrar, the third book of Jami. This manuscript in fact ends with Jami's fourth book, the Subhat al-Abrar.
