Of rectangular form with hinged lid, covered with claret leather with gilt-metal fittings, the interior concealing a writing table covered with ceramic plates and other various compartments, the interior of the lid with a set of compartments for papers of various sizes and an arrangement of seven ivory and bone-hilted tools including a corkscrew, letter opener, scalpel and tweezers, with a tortoiseshell blotter and two cuboid boxes for the inkwell and matches, the maker's name inscribed along the writing table, the lock inscription reading BRAMAH LONDON, the gilt inscription on the lid giving the name of Muzzafar al-Din Mirza, with the Qajar insignia and a miniature portrait of Muzaffar al-Din Shah above, with the original yellow leather fitted cover, some old tears and scuffing

The inscription on the top reads hazrat-e ashraf-e vala vali'ahd Muzaffar al-Din Mirza (His Majesty, the most noble the exalted the Crown Prince Muzaffar al-Din Mirza).

Muzaffar al-Din was named Crown Prince in 1861 and ascended the throne in May 1896.
