OTTOMAN SYRIA OR EGYPT, SECOND HALF 18TH CENTURY
Of rectangular form with cusped finial flanked by two tapering half- palmettes, Arabic and Turkish manuscript on paper laid down on wood, the first line the bismallah in bold black muhaqqaq, a gold and polychrome floral illuminated headpiece above, the traditional hilyeh composition below written in black naskh and thuluth in cloudbands reserved against gold ground, with further gold floral sprays and polychrome floral illumination, slight rubbing and flaking, large split along the centre line
