A GOLD AND HARDSTONE INTAGLIO NECKLACE
Designed as a gold mesh band, suspending a graduated series of eleven bezel-set intaglios, including one of green chalcedony with two standing draped females; one of carnelian with Nike holding a palm branch and a wreath; one of amethyst with Eros arming himself; one of pale green chalcedony with a god standing at an altar, holding a cornucopia; one of carnelian with Zeus enthroned, holding Nike in his hand, an eagle at his feet; one of banded agate with a youth holding a shepherd's staff, a vase before him; one of chalcedony with a seated goddess; one of carnelian with a god leaning on a serpent-entwined staff, a cup in his raised hand; one of carnelian with Athena enthroned; one of dark carnelian with a seated Eros playing a lyre, each with a half pearl above, spaced by a half pearl and gold pendant, circa 1880, one intaglio possibly ancient, 15 ins.
