At the time of cataloguing, the present example is the only newel post extant to feature a dahlia.

A SAINT LOUIS FACETED AND GARLANDED DAHLIA NEWEL POST
Circa 1848-1850
The flower composed of three rows of overlapping striated pink petals, about a millifiori cane center, growing from a short green stalk issuing a leaf and with four further leaf-tips about the flower, cut with geometric facets, on a short stem and original brass socle mount (chips and fracture to stem)
