Lot Essay

This panel probably was part of a bed sheet, part of the dowry of a young girl. The peacock motifs are characteristic and can be seen on several examples in institutions, such as the embroidery in the Textile Museum, Washington, illustrated on Plate 6, Catalogue Number 12, Aegean Crossroads.
