With Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch with enamel dial and applied hour markers in 1957 and its subsequent sale on 21 August 1958. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe contemporary black presentation box.
To the best of our knowledge, this watch is one of only eight examples of a reference 2526 in pink gold with black enamel dial and applied gold numerals to appear in public to date. Fresh to the market, the rarity is enhanced by the pink gold bracelet, although not mentioned on the Extract from the Archives it can safely be assumed that it was added at the original owner's request.
Few "time only" wristwatches are as charismatic as Patek Philippe's mythical reference 2526 and, amongst this line, examples featuring a black enamel dial must be considered the ultimate variant. Blessed with perfect case proportions and dimensions, reference 2526 benefits from a timelessly elegant dial layout which is further enhanced by the strong and graceful contrast between the black enamel surface finish and the applied faceted gold baton numerals. The raised and gilt signature together with the similarly coloured pearl-shaped minute markers round up its appearance. The famous "type A" bracelet by Ponti, Gennari & Cie., exclusively made for Patek Philippe, completes this masterpiece of 1950s personification of the post war era in watchmaking. Reference 2526, introduced in 1953, was Patek Philippe's first model featuring a self-winding movement, the legendary calibre 12-600 AT. The model is illustrated in Patek Philippe Wristwatches by Martin Huber & Alan Banbery, first edition pp. 168-169, second edition pp. 213, 216-217.
