The present work is after the picture in a private collection, and possibly the version that Mannings refers to as a "very competent studio copy" (D. Mannings, Sir Joshua Reynolds: A Complete Catalogue of his Paintings, New Haven and London, 2000, p. 542, no. 2100a).
