CASE: recessed top and leaf-cast tie to square section handle, bevelled glasses, lock to underside for sliding rear glass panel DIAL: pierced and engraved foliate mask to white enamel chapter disc, subsidiary seconds at XII, signed 'DENT/LONDON, blued steel hands MOVEMENT: single chain fusee, maintaining power, gilt platform with underslung Earnshaw's detent escapement to Dent's staple balance and blued steel helical spring, spot-finished back plate signed 'Dent/LONDON/693'; winding key, case key

Descriptif du lot

A Dent chronometer carriage clock with staple balance and of closely related design, No. 702, was sold Christie's London, 20 February 2008, lot 80 (£14,900). Edward Dent (1790-1853) patented his 'staple' balance in 1842, not long after setting up in business on his own at 82 Strand.
