QIANLONG GILT FOUR-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-95)
The gently rounded body finely decorated with dragons in pursuit of the flaming pearl amidst stylised clouds, the wide lobed rim with archaistic chilong scrolls, the reverse with leafy meandering lotus scrolls, the interior with various lotus blooms borne on leafy tendrils, and the base with a gilt four-character mark reserved on a blue ground and surrounded by four small blooms

It is rare to find a vessel of this shape and size in cloisonné enamel; it is more commonly found in lacquer ware accompanied by a cover.
An example of this type in lacquer can be seen illustrated in Masterpieces of Chinese Carved Lacquer Ware in the National Palace Museum, National Palace Museum Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China, 1971, no. 43
