Lot Essay

The long inscription to the wide interior wall is an ode to archaism and praises the powerful shape of ding vessels from the Shang period. A similar vessel can be seen illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Jadeware III, Hong Kong, 1995, no. 155, p. 189.
