A ROMAN BRONZE OIL LAMP
CIRCA 1ST CENTURY A.D.
In the form of a comic theatre mask with exaggerated features, frowning brow, pug nose and raised circular beard framing open mouth, hair close cropped with stippled decoration and longer curls around the sides, volute-shaped nozzle, loop handle surmounted by a knobbed ivy leaf, on raised tear-drop shaped foot, three suspension rings at either side of mouth and with linked chains for hanging
7 in. (18 cm.) long
