CIRCA 3RD-EARLY 4TH CENTURY A.D.
With two standing draped figures facing each other, the figure on the right with right arm raised, a branch in between, an incised inscription reading 'MAPTINIANOY', 'Martinianou', set in a modern gold ring
½ in. (1.3 cm.) long
Provenance
Formerly in an American private collection since the early 1980s.
Literature
J. Spier, Late Antique and Early Christian Gems, Wiesbaden, 2007, cat. no. 454, where it is suggested that the two figures might represent Jesus and an apostle.
