AN ETRUSCAN BRONZE GRIFFIN PROTOME
CIRCA 6TH-5TH CENTURY B.C.
With mouth agape revealing pointed teeth, the face framed by an incised collar, tang for attachment behind; and an Etruscan bronze vessel cover, probably from a thymiaterion, in the form of a male half-figure, with arms upraised, circa 700-650 B.C., both mounted
2¼ in. (5.7 cm.) and 3 in. (7.5 cm.) high respectively (2)
