The sow striding forward, elongated nose to the ground, ears pinned back against her neck, incised facial features, short tail and cloven hooves, the vessel aperture emerging from her back, on integral rectangular shaped base pierced three times for attachment, mounted

拍品專文

Stone cosmetic vessels in the form of or decorated with pigs are known from the Predynastic Period (Petrie Museum UC15752 - UC15754). However the resemblance of the above sow to faience amulets produced from the Third Intermediate Period onwards would suggest a later date. Cf. C. Andrews, Amulets of Ancient Egypt, London, 1994, p. 35, no. 32a for a similar amulet of a sow.
