For a beaker of similar form and decoration (but with European figures), see U. Pietsch, Johann Gregorius Höroldt 1696-1775, und die Meissener Porzellan-Malerei, Zwinger Exhibition Catalogue (Leipzig, 1996), pp. 66-67, no. 43.
The figure holding a parasol is taken from sheet 22 of Höroldt's Schulz Codex. A detail of this figure, with the corresponding sheet, is illustrated on p. 21. For a teabowl with the same two figures see Rainer Rückert, Meissener Porzellan (Munich, 1966), pl. 43, no. 135. The seated lady playing cards on the other side of the beaker could be derived from a similar figure on sheet 26 of the Schulz Codex. A similar pair of card-players appeared on a beaker of similar form from the Mrs R. Dreyfus Collection sold by Sotheby's, London, on 8th July 1969, lot 118.
