Painted with two Orientals playing cards, the other side with two half-figures, one figure with a tray of steaming vessels and the other with a parasol, within elongated quatrefoil gilt cartouches with Böttger-lustre panels and red scrolls, the interior with a gilt band border with pendant indianische Blumen (gilding of border worn away, wear to gilding on cartouches, slight wear to gilt band on foot)

The figure holding a parasol is taken from sheet 22 of Höroldt's Schulz Codex. A detail of this figure, with the corresponding sheet, is illustrated on p. 21. For a teabowl with the same two figures see Rainer Rückert, Meissener Porzellan (Munich, 1966), pl. 43, no. 135. The seated lady playing cards on the other side of the beaker could be derived from a similar figure on sheet 26 of the Schulz Codex. A similar pair of card-players appeared on a beaker of similar form from the Mrs R. Dreyfus Collection sold by Sotheby's, London, on 8th July 1969, lot 118.
