The slightly ground base indicates sagging during firing, and it is probable that the vase remained un-decorated for a few years. The cover is clearly decorated by the same hand and the whole ensemble was probably completed by circa 1745. A vase of similar form from the same garniture as vases in the State Collection, Dresden, was sold by Christie's New York on 24th May 2001, lot 350. For another elaborately mounted example with 'green Watteau' decoration, and with an ormolu cover, see M. Cassidy-Geiger et al., Fragile Diplomacy, Bard Graduate Center, New York, Exhibition Catalogue (Singapore, 2007), pp. 161-162, fig. 7-28.
