WINES FROM THE WORLD OVER
This west coast consignor has something for everyone. In his subterranean, custom-built home cellar, we spent a solid day packing up lots in pristine conditions (lots 46-50 and 377-453). From Champagne to Bordeaux, to Madeira, this consignor had an eye for things of beauty. One of the gems of this collection is the Yquem. Only from the greatest vintages--1921, 1937, 1945--and stored perfectly. Bid with confidence.
Veuve Clicquot is amongst the most internationally recognized and respected of champagnes. The history of the house is closely intertwined with that of the evolution of sparkling wine, as many strides towards perfecting the quality of sparkling wine were first discovered at Veuve Clicquot. Cuvee La Grande Dame is named after the famed widow Nicole-Barbe Clicquot-Ponsardin who is credited with raising the quality level of Veuve Clicquot to a grand marque. First launched in 1977 to celebrate the firm's bicentenary, the champagne received immediate prestige and every vintage produced continues to rival the region's top cuvees. A blend of chardonnay and pinot noir grapes, the Grande Dame is produced exclusively from the eight grand cru vineyards originally owned by the woman herself. On the palette it remains true to its namesake as one of the richest, powerful, and yet elegant and feminine cuvees in the world.
